Interview: DJ Coma в клубном журнале Tilllate

Tilllate 3

Текст интервью:

Which party were you at?

Pendulum at Club Egg in London on 15th of April 2011

How was it?

It was a really great night. Although drum’n’bass and dubstep are not my favourite genres of dance music, I could not afford to miss an opportunity to see artists such as Pendulum. The atmosphere was amazing, when I entered the room I saw so many hands in the air, I took my camera and I started snapping right away. The MC was doing a great job — the crowd was reacting to every single word he was saying.

What does tilllate mean to you?

To me Tilllate means opportunity to meet and snap the best DJs in the world, in the best clubs with the most amazing crowds!

What makes a good shot?

My perfect combination is – light, music and mood.

What are the difficulties of shooting in an active nightclub?

As long as you have all your gear and belongings under control, you have no problems. Once you start to leave your bags and clothes in random places, you will end up looking for your stuff until early in the morning. I always have my camera bag on me with all my gear inside. In my pockets I have Tilllate cards and mobile phone in case I need to tweet that DJ is playing awesome tune! My advice for people who are starting in nightclub photography – keep everything under control, know the line-up, and move around. And you will be guaranteed to be safe and have really nice shots in the end of the night.

What inspired you to become a photographer?

I love dance music, I’ve been DJing for more than 5 years now, so when I’m not playing, I’m snapping. Photography has my hobby for more than 8 years now. At some point I thought – why not combine djing and photography. As long as I’m close to nightclubs, my favourite djs and dance music, this combination works really great. Music has been my biggest inspiration for anything I do.

Who is the most famous person you have snapped?

It is really hard to name just one person. I have worked with Tilllate for almost a year now, and I’ve seen some of the best djs in the world. In the past I’ve worked with Paul van Dyk, Laidback Luke, Fedde Le Grand, John Dahlback, John O’Callaghan, First State, Dash Berlin, Andy Diguid, BT just to name a few. Summer of 2011 looks great at the moment; I’m looking forward to some really great events this year. Keep an eye on my Tilllate profile.

What’s the strangest thing you’ve witnessed through your lens?

One interesting and at the same time strange thing I’ve noticed – is how people are getting older on pictures. It sounds obvious, but if you will take pictures of same person at least twice a year for 3-4 years in a row and combine those pictures after, you will see what I mean. Get software called Picasa from Google (it’s free) and try “Face Movie” feature. You are going to love it.
